The Japan Foundation, Manila has announced on Tuesday that award-winning Japanese animated film In This Corner of the World (Kono Sekai no Katasumi ni) is getting a one-time screening at the Manga Hokusai Manga: Approaching the Master’s Compendium from the Perspective of Contemporary Comics exhibition.
The screening will be held on July 1 at 4PM at CCP Dream Theater, Cultural Center of the Philippines, together with a special talk by Dr. Jaqueline Berndt, director of the said international travelling exhibition.
The screening and talk is in collaboration with the Japanese Film Festival -EigaSai 2017 and the exhibition. Admission is free on a first-come, first served basis.
In This Corner of the World is based on the award-winning manga by Fumiyo Kouno. It is directed by Sunao Katabuchi and animated by studio MAPPA. It has already won various awards including this year’s Japan Academy Prize for Animation of the Year and Japan Internet Movie Awards for Best Film. The movie is set in 1930s and 1940s in Hiroshima and Kure, Japan. It tells the story of a bride named Suzu Urano as she live her life during the Second World War.
