Makoto Shinkai’s hit anime film “your name.” gets Live-action Hollywood Remake

Makoto Shinkai’s 2016 hit anime film your name. (Kimi no Nawa) announced to be getting a live-action remake from the producers of Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation and Star Trek.

J. J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions will produce the film for Paramount Pictures, alongside with the original Japanese producer TOHO, who will distribute the film in Japan.

Oscar-nominated Eric Heisserer, screenwriter for the 2011’s Final Destination 5 and last year’s Arrival, will be writing the script for the film.

In a statement, Shinkai said, “When such a work is imbued with Hollywood filmmaking, we may see new possibilities that we had been completely unaware of”.

He added that he is “looking forward to the live-action film with excited anticipation”.

your name. tells a story of a high school student in the rural countryside, Mitsuha Miyamizu and a teenager living in Tokyo, Taki Tachibana as their dreams and lives start getting entangled when a comet approaches Earth. One day, Mitsuha wakes up as Taki. Taki one day wakes up as Mitsuha. For a few days they sporadically switch bodies until one afternoon they lose complete contact.

The original film opened in Japan in August 2016. As of January 2017, it has become the highest grossing anime film of all time.
