SCANDAL: From Osaka’s Highschool girls to international stars

Who have thought that these four high school students from Osaka will become one of the biggest all-female rock band, not only in Japan but all over the world?

It all started in 2006 when Haruna, Rina, Mami and Tomomi began performing weekly at the Shiroten in Osaka Castle Park.  Despite being only high school students at a local vocal and dance school, the four girls gained popularity in the area and soon, the interest, of the indie label Kitty Records. The band’s name, Scandal, was selected from one of the shop signs that can be seen near Studio Brotherz, the studio where they practiced in their early days.

Two years from their humble beginnings, the girls’ music careers took off. 2008 marked several milestones for the band including the debut of their first major single, “Doll”. They also began performing in several otaku and anime conventions in countries like United States, France, and Hong Kong.

The band’s popularity continued to rise as their single Shōjo S was released. The single was used as an opening theme for the anime series Bleach. Following this trend, every single they released finds itself among the ranks in the Oricon and Billboard Top 100 or have record Gold and platinum sales.

On their 10th Anniversary, the Japanese band SCANDAL paid homage to their hometown by performing an exclusive concert, capping their successful “Hello World” Tour.

In the Philippines, the band became popular for their songs that were used as theme songs for Bleach and Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood. Shojo S and Harukaze became the theme songs for the anime Bleach while the song Shunkan Sentimental was the ending theme song for the Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood.

After the long wait, Primetrade Asia, a local event organizers announced a good news that Filipino fans have been anticipating. For the first time, they’ve announced that the all-female band SCANDAL is finally having a live concert in the Philippines.
