First Filipino-produced anime series “Barangay 143” to air on GMA 7

Synergy88 Entertainment Media Inc. has announced in a media launch on Tuesday that upcoming sports anime series Barangay 143 will go on air on GMA 7 starting this October.

Present at the announcement were Jyotirmoy Saha, CEO of August Media Holdings; Jackeline Chua, Managing Director and Co-Founder of Synergy88 Entertaiment Media Inc.; Takahiro Kishimoto, Head of Animation, International Business Department of TV Asahi and Joey Abacan, First Vice President, Program Management at GMA Network.

Synergy88 has also announced the series’ Filipino cast, which includes: Migo Adacer as Bren T. Park, Julie Ann San Jose as Vicky, Kelley Day as Jinri, Ruru Madrid as Wax, John Arcilla as Coach B, Cherie Gil as Sophia, Sylvia Sanchez* as Tita Baby, Paolo Contis as Koboy, Raver Eda as Buchoy and Edu Manzano as The Commissioner.

Barangay 143 is a feel-good coming of age story of Bren, a young Korean boy whose search for his father brings him to the Philippines. Lost and desperate for answers, is here in this foreign land that he finds an unlikely family in a team of misfits whose ambition is to bring glory to their hometown.

Set in the Tondo, the series will feature original music from a whole host of celebrity Filipino singers and musicians. The series is designed and produced in Manila with the help crew across Japan, South Korea, United States, Malaysia and Singapore.

Prior the anime series, Synergy88 has launched the Barangay 143 Street League mobile game, which is already available on Google Play for Andriod and iOS App Store. The narrative story within the mobile game leads to the suspense and drama that drives the story for the upcoming television series.

Leading up to the start of the broadcast, there will be a series of Barangay 143 themed concerts featuring music starts like Gloc-9, Shanti Dope, Julie Ann San Jose and many more.
