PH Esports Team Sibol to compete at the 30th SEA Games

The Philippine Southeast Asian Games Esports Union (PSEU), the committee in-charge of organizing e-sports competitions in the upcoming SEA Games, announced the formation of the country’s national e-sports team Sibol.

In a statement, Sibol, which means growth, will be competing in all six titles featured in the e-sports event of the 30th SEA Games, which include Dota 2, StarCraft II, Hearthstone, Arena of Valor, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, and Tekken 7.

To start, the e-sports committee has invited several outstanding Filipino e-sports athletes into the team’s training pool. They are:

Dota 2

Apart from the players, interested Filipino citizens over the age of 13 are invited to join the qualifiers, which are scheduled this August.

The final roster will composed of 27 members, seven each for each team games (Dota 2, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Arena of Valor) and two for each individual games (StarCraft 2, Hearthstone, and Tekken 7).

The e-sports committee has also tapped Razer Philippines as the game’s official e-sports partner.

E-sports has been at the heart of Razer since the beginning,” says David Tse, Global Esports Director at Razer in a statement.

“As the leading brand in esports, we have supported countless global events, teams, and athletes over the years and continue to push E-sports to new heights. Now we are very excited to help esports enter a new era, where it will be a medalled event for the first time in the SEA Games,” he added.

With their support, as well as our other partners, the PSEU is confident that the qualifiers for Sibol will bring out the best and most talented esports athletes in the country. We stand firm in our goal of SEA Games gold, and we as a team pledge to support Sibol every step of the way.”

The e-sports competition is scheduled from December 5 to 10, 2019 at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan, Metro Manila. This will
be the first time in history that e-sports is included as a medaled sport in any international gaming event.
