Rurouni Kenshin delays release of “final” films until 2021 due to COVID-19

The release of the “The Final” and “The Beginning”, the upcoming two live action films of the Rurouni Kenshin series, has been delayed due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Warner Bros Japan announced on Wednesday that these “Final Chapter” films, which were originally slated for release on July 3 and August 7, will now open on Spring 2021 during Japan’s Golden Week.

The two films will cover the original manga’s Jinchu arc, which features a new villain, a mysterous weapon dealer named Enichi. The films will also tell the origin story of Kenshin Himura’s cross-shaped scar in his cheek.

The first ‘Rurouni Kenshin’ live action movie was screened in the Philippines in 2012. Its sequels, Kyoto Inferno and The Legend Ends were released locally two years later.
