Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway film release postponed due to COVID-19

Sunrise announced on Thursday that they have decided to postpone the release of “Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway” due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Japan.

“Even though we’ve been proceeding with the preparations as “Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway” was scheduled to be released on July 23rd, 2020, we’ve decided to postpone our launching of the movie due to the novel coronavirus outbreaks in Japan,” the studio said in a statement.

The anime studio will announce the new release date at the official website of the film as well as their official social media accounts. Gundam.info also released the statement in English.

The film was supposed to release on July 23 in Japan.

Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway is the first in the three-part anime film series based on a series of novels created and written by Yoshiyuki Tomino. The series is set in U.C.105 or seven years after the end of the Second Neo Zeon War. It follows Hathaway Noa, who now goes by the name Mufti Nabiyy Erin, as he starts a terrorist group to stop the abuses of the Earth Federation.

The film was also slated for release in the Philippines.
