CD PROJEKT RED announced on Friday that a new original anime series based on the upcoming game, Cyberpunk 2077 is coming in 2022.
Titled Cyberpunk: Edgerunner, the series is set in the same universe as the game.
The series tells a standalone, 10-episode story about a street kid trying to survive in a technology and body modification-obsessed city of the future. Having everything to lose, he chooses to stay alive by becoming an edgerunner—a mercenary
outlaw also known as a cyberpunk.
Studio Trigger will serve as the animation studio on the series. Hiroyuki Imaishi, who previously worked on Gurren Lagann and Kill la Kill will direct the series along with character designers Yoh Yoshinari and Yuto Kaneko, who both worked on Little Witch Academia.
