“Ultraman” CG film in development at Netflix

Netflix, in partnership with Tsuburaya Productions is developing a new CG-animated Ultraman film.

The streaming giant also unveiled a teaser visual for the feature film.

The film will be the directorial debut for Shannon Tindle whose talents in character design were seen in 3d animation films like Coraline and Kubo and the Two Strings to life. He will be working together with co-director, John Aoshima, the man behind Gravity Falls and Ducktales.

Tindle will also be writing the script with Marc Haimes.

Netflix describes the series as follows:

Baseball superstar Ken Sato returns to his home country of Japan to pick up the mantle of Earth-defending superhero Ultraman, but quickly finds more than he bargained for when he’s forced to raise the offspring of his greatest foe, a newborn Kaiju. Struggling to balance the roles of teammate and new father, Ken must confront his own ego, his estranged father, and the conniving Kaiju Defense Force to rise up and discover what it truly means to be Ultraman.

In 2019, Netflix premiered an Ultraman 3DCG anime series based on the manga series by Eiichi Shimizu and Tomohiro Shimoguchi. The series has been renewed for the second season.
