Prime Video has announced the global premiere of Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX (Jīkuakusu), the latest entry in the iconic Gundam franchise. The series will stream exclusively on Prime Video in over 240 countries and territories, including simultaneous release with Japan, starting April 8.
The new anime marks a landmark collaboration between Studio khara, known for Evangelion, and SUNRISE, the studio behind Gundam. The creative team includes director Kazuya Tsurumaki (FLCL), writers Yoji Enokido and Hideaki Anno (Evangelion), character designer Take (Pokémon Journeys), and mechanical designer Ikuto Yamashita.
Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX follows high school student Amate Yuzuriha, who lives in a space colony and becomes involved in an illegal mobile suit dueling competition known as “Clan Battle.” Piloting a GQuuuuuuX under the name “MACHU,” Amate faces daily battles while encountering a mysterious Gundam and its pilot Shuuji, as tensions escalate toward a new era.
The series was preceded by the theatrical release Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-, which debuted in Japan in January and expanded internationally, receiving positive reception.
The global launch celebrates 46 years of the Gundam franchise and 30 years of Evangelion. Episodes will be available weekly, with dubbing in 10 languages and subtitles in 29 languages. The opening theme, “Plazma,” is performed by Kenshi Yonezu.
