Japanese voice actor Takahiro Sakurai recently shared his thoughts on returning as Giyu Tomioka in the highly anticipated Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle trilogy. In an exclusive interview with ANIMEPH, Sakurai reflected on the challenges and opportunities of portraying the Water Hashira in the climactic arc of the series.

Surprised by the Trilogy
Sakurai admitted he was not surprised that the Infinity Castle storyline would be adapted into a film, but the decision to expand it into a trilogy caught him off guard.
“It’s a very long battle,” he said, explaining that he prepared himself for the scale of the story and the extended performance it required.
Bringing Intensity Without Special Preparation
On portraying Giyu’s intense emotional and action-driven moments, Sakurai explained that he does not rely on special preparations. Instead, he focuses on staying true to the character while performing alongside the rest of the cast.
“It’s not only myself, it’s the other cast as well,” he noted. “Forming the character together with others is what’s important.”
Exploring Giyu’s Emotions
Sakurai highlighted how this arc differs from previous seasons, pointing out that Giyu reveals more of his emotions and inner struggles. For him, this shift provided an exciting opportunity to show new sides of the character.
“It has been so much fun because I’m finally able to show more colors and emotions,” he shared, though he admitted that conveying personality through battle scenes remained a challenge.
A Promise to Fans
As for what audiences can expect, Sakurai promised an unforgettable experience.
“There will be no disappointments whatsoever. It’s going way beyond your imagination and expectations,” he said, encouraging viewers to pay attention to “the real meaning of infinity.”
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle opens in Philippine cinemas beginning August 20, 2025.
