AsiaPOP Comicon Manila has announced on Thursday that acclaimed anime director and mecha designer Shoji Kawamori will be a guest in one of the biggest pop-culture convention this August.

Shoji Kawamori is known as one of the original creators behind the anime franchise Macross. He is also original creator for several science-fiction anime series, which includes Genesis of Aquarion, AKB0048, Basquash, The Vision of Escaflowne and many more.

AsiaPOP Comicon describes Kawamori as follows:

Being one of the original creators of the animated TV hit Macross, which became part of a series known as Robotech outside Japan, he played a major part in developing one of the important factors that popularized the Japanese anime phenomenon worldwide.
