The Japan Foundation, Manila has unveiled on Monday the film lineup and schedules for this year’s Japanese Film Festival – EIGASAI in the Philippines.
Fifteen (15) of various genres are scheduled to screen in five cities nationwide starting July 4 to August 26, in honor of the Philippine-Japan Friendship month and Eiga Sai’s 21th anniversary this year.
EigaSai 2018 – The Japanese Film Festival opens with the live-action movie adaptations of popular manga series Chihayafuru graced by its director Koizomi Nori at Cinema 2, Greenbelt 1 in Makati City. Nori is also scheduled to hold talks for the filmmakers and the general public on July 6 and 7.
For this year, The festival also features special screening and talks in collaboration with other Japan Foundation projects such as: Of Love & Law (Eigasai x Cinemalaya x EYES for Embracing Diversity), Seven Samurai (Eigasai x Manila Notes with international acclaimed playwright/director Oriza Hirata) and When the Curtain Rises (Eigasai x The Spirit of Budo: The History of Japan’s Martial Arts.)
Other films which will be shown throughout the festival are as follows: Let’s Go, JETS! From Small Town Girls to U.S. Champions?!, Rudolf the Black Cat (animation), Survival Family, Honnouji Hotel, Memoirs of a Murderer, Tora-san of Goto, Tori Girl, ReLIFE, and Daytime Shooting Star.
The screening venues are Greenbelt 1 Cinema 2, Makati City (July 4-8), CSR Hall and Escaler Hall, Ateneo De Manila University (July 4-6), SM Cinema Davao City (July 12-15), Ateneo de Naga University (July 26), SM Cinema Naga City (July 27-29), Cultural Center of the Philippines, Pasay City (August 4, 17), Cinematheque Center Manila, Ermita, Manila (August 5), SM Cinema Bacolod City (August 9-12), Cine Adarna, UP Film Institure, Diliman (August 15-18), and Ayala Center Cebu City (August 23-26)
Admission is free on a first-come, first-serve basis, except the screenings at Greenbelt 1 Cinema 2 which will be Php100 per film screening.
