“Aya to Majo” is based on the 2011 children’s novel “Earwig and the Witch” by Diana Wynne Jones, who also wrote the source novel of Howl’s Moving Castle.

The original novel tells a story of an orphan girl named ‘Earwig’ who finds herself adopted by a terrible witch.

Hayao Miyazaki is in charge of planning the adaptation while his son Goro Miyazaki is directing the project.

The film is set to air on Japan’s NHK this Winter 2020. There is no announcement yet if it will be shown internationally.
