The official website of the new “Higurashi: When They Cry” released a new key visual and second promotional video on Thursday.
The four additional cast members were also announced, which include Kuraudo Ooishiare as Chafurin, Jirou Tomitake as Tooru Ookawa, Miyo Takano as Miki Itou and Kyousuke Irie as Toshihiko Seki. They will reprise their roles from the original anime series.
The first half will premiere on October 1, 2020 with 13 episodes. The 2nd half set to air starting January 7, 2021. The series was originally scheduled for Summer 2020, but has been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The new Higurashi: When They Cry is directed by Keiichirou Kawaguchi, featuring character designs from Akio Watanabe. It will be produced by Passione, which previously worked on other anime titles such as Ishuzoku Reviewers, Citrus and High School DxD Hero. The lead voice actors will also return to reprise their roles in the series.
Higurashi: When They Cry is based on a series of eight sound novels by 07th Expansion. It was later adapted into an 26-episode anime series, which premiered Summer 2006.
