Netflix showcases diverse slate of anime titles at AnimeJapan 2023

Netflix has revealed their diverse lineup of current and upcoming anime at the AnimeJapan 2023 event, delighting fans both in and outside of Japan. The slate of anime includes fan-favorites like PLUTO and newly announced series Ōoku: The Inner Chambers.

One of the highly anticipated anime adaptations is Ōoku: The Inner Chambers, which is based on the hit manga by Fumi Yoshinaga. The series is set to release in 2023. Another title joining the lineup is Yakitori: Soldiers of Misfortune, which is an anime series adapted from a brand-new military science fiction novel by Carlo Zen, the creator of The Saga of Tanya the Evil. The anime is set to release in May 2023.

Netflix also announced the release of Onmyoji, an animated series based on the world of Baku Yumemakura’s well-known tales about the ancient yin-yang diviner Abe Seimei. The series is set to release later this year.

According to Yuji Yamano, Director of Content at Netflix, fans love the breadth of the lineup, which includes top storytellers, buzzy fan-favorites, and more. Yamano added that the global interest in anime has been strong and growing, with over 100 million members watching anime every year.

At the event, Netflix welcomed the author of PLUTO, Naoki Urasawa, Japanese voice talent Yoko Hikasa (Shaman King), and Minori Suzuki (Macross Delta), as well as title supervisor Macoto Tezka to the stage. The group shared their enthusiasm for the highly-anticipated anime adaptation of PLUTO, which is set to release in 2023.

During their appearance, Netflix also revealed a new teaser art by original creator Naoki Urasawa, giving fans another glimpse at the characters and the world of PLUTO.
