AKB48, the renowned Japanese idol group, has announced that a new global unit named ‘Quadlips’ is set to make its debut next year.
The four-member unit features members from various sister groups under the AKB48 umbrella, including SKE48, JKT48, BNK48, and MNL48, emphasizing a trend of international expansion within the realm of girl groups. This announcement is part of a project initiated by Superball, a Japanese corporation responsible for AKB48’s overseas licensing operations and recognized for managing the Japanese-Korean global project “IZ*ONE.” Superball aims to engage in diverse cultural activities, with a primary focus on Southeast Asia.
Its member includes HINA (Hinano Aomi), a 9th-generation SKE48 artist known for her pivotal role in “Zettai Inspiration.” Joining her is FENI, a 3rd-generation JKT48 member celebrated for her outstanding performance skills and unique style. FAME, a 3rd-generation BNK48 member, earned recognition as a Senbatsu member for the song “First Rabbit” in 2022. Lastly, Nicole Somera, known as COLE, a 1.5th-generation MNL48 artist, was selected as a Senbatsu member for “365 Araw ng Eroplanong Papel” in 2019.
