“Slam Dunk” gets new anime film

Takehiko Inoue, the creator and illustrator behind the iconic 90’s basketball manga Slam Dunk announced on Twitter that the series is getting a new anime film.

A new website slamdunk-movie.jp and @movie_slamdunk Twitter account were also created.

Toei Animation will be producing the film

“Slamdunk” is based on a manga series created by Takehiko Inoue. The anime series originally aired from 1993 to 1996 in Japan. The series first aired in the country in 1995.

iQIYI, which is currently streaming the anime describes the series as follows:

Hanamichi Sakuragi, who has no basis in basketball, decides to enter Shohoku High School Basketball Team to attract his crush, Haruko Akagi. However, Akagi is already in love with the star player, Kaede Rukawa. While Sakuragi’s talents and his spirit have made him become a very crucial player in the team. Under his coach’s guidance, Sakuragi then decided to be the national top basketball player before going overseas. At the same time, Rukawa joined Shohoku Basketball Team.
