Kwentoon and IPOPhil launch first Philippine Manga Bootcamp

Kwentoon, a Philippine-based digital publishing company, and Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHIL) have teamed up to launch the first Philippine Manga Bootcamp. This online 3-month training program will give aspiring manga creators the opportunity to learn from industry experts and develop their manga creation skills.These experts include Mikey Maeda, Tristan Yuvienco, Sampay and Elmer Damaso.

Maeda has worked with Shonen Jump and collaborated with authors of One-Punch Man, Shaman King, Boruto, and other famous Japanese manga series. Tristan Yuvienco, an award-winning designer and illustrator who has worked with Netflix, Cartoon Network, and Disney, will teach about character design and coloring.

Sampay, a graduate of the University of the Philippines and one of the best local comics artists, will teach more about Anime and Manga illustration and coloring. Elmer Damaso, who has worked on international titles such as Robotech, Kamen Rider Zero One, and Horizon Zero Dawn: Liberation, will teach character illustration and paneling techniques. He is also an awardee of the 1st Japan International Manga Awards.

In addition, IPOPHIL’s Bureau of Copyright and Related Rights will educate participants on the importance of copyright and how to protect their work.

Classes for the program will start on March 11, 2023, and are open to Filipinos aged 15 years old and above.
