Netflix has released a teaser trailer and key art for its upcoming live-action adaptation of the popular anime and manga series “Yu Yu Hakusho”, which will premiere on December 14.
The teaser trailer showcases the stunning visual effects and action scenes that bring the Yu Yu Hakusho universe to life, featuring the iconic characters such as Yusuke, Kurama, Hiei, and Kuwabara. The production team collaborated with Scanline VFX, a renowned visual effects company that has worked on numerous Hollywood blockbusters, to create a global one-team production strategy between Japan and the U.S.
The teaser art depicts a dramatic confrontation between Team Yusuke and the formidable Toguro brothers and Sakyo, hinting at an epic battle where “strength” and “beliefs” will collide. The series will also introduce other fan-favorite characters, such as Keiko, Botan, Yukina, Karasu, Koenma, Genkai, and more, played by a talented cast of actors.
The series is directed by Sho Tsukikawa, who has helmed several hit films and dramas in Japan, and written by Tatsuro Mishima, a prolific screenwriter and playwright. The executive producer is Kaata Sakamoto, Netflix’s director of content for Japan and anime.
The series is produced by ROBOT, a leading production company in Japan, in association with THE SEVEN, a creative agency that specializes in entertainment.
Yu Yu Hakusho is based on the manga Yu Yu Hakusho, written and illustrated by Yoshihiro Togashi, who is also known for his other work Hunter x Hunter. The series follows Yusuke Urameshi, a teenage delinquent who is revived as a spirit detective after his death and embarks on various adventures with his friends and allies in the human and spirit worlds.
Yu Yu Hakusho is more widely known as Ghost Fighter in the Philippines. First aired in mid-90s, the show became a staple of local television and influenced a generation of Filipino anime fans. Some of the memorable features of the Filipino dub include the localized names of the characters (such as Eugene for Yusuke and Vincent for Hiei) and the iconic catchphrase “Tapusin! Tapusin!
