After two years online and a one-year hiatus, Summer Komikon returns to SM Megamall’s Megatrade Hall 3 on May 25-26, from 11 AM to 8 PM. This event, a pillar of the Philippine comics community for 19 years, celebrates local komiks and their creators.
Special guests include Russell Molina, Gab Chee Kee, Ace C Enriquez, and Ed Padilla. Molina is known for “Sixty Six Books 1 & 2” and “Josefina.” Chee Kee, also a guitarist for Parokya ni Edgar, wrote “Mang Jose” and “Tanod.” Enriquez co-created “Bathala: Apokalypsis” and “Engkanto-4-Hire.” Padilla created “Ang Tindahan ni Mang Ed.”
Attendees can meet these creators, purchase signed books, and join panel discussions. The event features on-the-spot challenges and a Comic Creation Contest: A Philippine Isekai, with winners announced during the weekend.
Exhibitors will showcase new releases, including “Pouches and Buckles” by Chee Kee and Enriquez, “The Lighthouse and the Storm” by M.A. Del Rosario, and “Wonder Boarders: We Are The Worlds” by Dan Geromo and David Sysing. Other titles include “Enchantment” by Hansel Dimapilis and “Carpool: Last Stop” by Syeri.
Komiks Kalye, the artist alley, features international illustrators like Mico Suayan, Carlo Pagulayan, Stephen Segovia, and Jethro Morales, who will sign comics and create sketches on May 26 from 1 PM to 6 PM.
Summer Komikon 2024, organized by Komikon Inc., is sponsored by Comic Odyssey, The Manila Bulletin, and others. Tickets are available at the gate. For more information, visit the Komikon Facebook page.
